Learn About the Affordable Care Act

Will Medicare services be cut to control costs?

Guaranteed Medicare Services will not be cut under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

These are services Medicare will pay for no matter the type of Medicare plan you have. Click here for a list of guaranteed services.

Some Medicare plans from private insurers cover extra things such as eyeglass or hearing aids. These private plans, called Medicare Advantage Plans, can cut these extra benefits.

This may happen because Medicare pays a set amount to a private insurer for your coverage in a Medicare Advantage Plan. Medicare pays these plans to cover all your guaranteed Medicare benefits but not for extra benefits.

Because a private insurer chose to offer these, they also may choose to stop. This decision is not made by Medicare or the ACA. Check with your Plan to learn more.
