Learn More About The Law
Introduction to the Affordable Care Act
Congress for many years has tried to improve our health care and health insurance systems. This involved much debate and many different ideas have been suggested.
Two new health care laws resulted from this work. They became law in March 2010:
- The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)
- The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act (Reconciliation Act)
Together these two laws are commonly call the Affordable Care Act, or ACA. The ACA's main goals are to help all people:
- Get quality, affordable health insurance
- Have greater control over your health care and health insurance decisions right now
